Le Requiem de Fauré est l’une des partitions favorites des chorales d’amateurs comme des ensembles vocaux professionnels. L’œuvre incarne au plus haut point l’esprit de la musique française, ou au moins son charme – « le charme fauréen est un enchantement » écrivait le philosophe Vladimir Jankélévitch. Fidèle défenseur du répertoire vocal français, et particulièrement de Fauré, Michel Piquemal sait faire chanter cette musique. À la tête de l’orchestre OstinatO et du Chœur Vittoria d’Île de France, Michel Piquemal interprète également la Pavane. Cette page brève pour chœur et petit orchestre sur un poème de Robert de Montesquiou servit de conclusion au « divertissement » que sont les Masques et bergamasques. La suite d’orchestre tirée de cette dernière œuvre, qui forme une quasi-symphonie, complète le programme.
