« Chopin est un modèle pour moi »
« Par ma formation de pianiste, j’ai beaucoup joué la musique de Chopin. Ce qui m’impressionne chez ce compositeur, c’est que même dans les petites formes, on retrouve à chaque fois une idée forte, un univers particulier. Il faut donc tout de suite créer le toucher qui mette dans l’ambiance. Des ambiances souvent allégoriques… Dans son film Sonate d’automne, Bergman emploie parfaitement le Prélude en mi mineur pour illustrer la relation entre la mère et la fille. C’est avec Chopin que le son pianistique émerge. Avant, on pensait aux notes mais pas au son. J’aime par ailleurs son travail sur l’opposition entre des passages libres, abstraits et des choses plus ancrées rythmiquement, populaires. Il faut également prêter attention au lien entre les pièces : d’une étude à l’autre par exemple, la transition peut être magique. On est encore dans la vibration du morceau précédent mais déjà dans l’univers du prochain. Comme beaucoup d’improvisateurs, je fonctionne avec des réflexes, et je remarque que mon travail technique vient beaucoup de Chopin. Dans son écriture, Chopin partait, d’une part, de formes improvisées pour créer un cadre et, d’autre part, rendait plus spontanée une structure établie. Ce compositeur est un modèle pour moi. »
