PHILHARMONIE / PIANO, CHŒUR ET ORCHESTRE
Monument à part du répertoire sacré que ce requiem de Brahms, œuvre d’un compositeur encore jeune qui livrait là sa composition pour orchestre la plus ambitieuse. Plutôt que de mettre en musique le texte latin de la messe des morts, Brahms construit un cheminement spirituel et textuel parmi les Psaumes et les Évangiles chantés dans le texte allemand de la Bible de Luther. Il en tire une œuvre à hauteur d’homme, plus introspective que grandiose, un véritable chant de douleur et de consolation où se font entendre les échos de la tradition allemande du motet depuis Schütz et où le chœur tient un rôle essentiel. Le Chœur de l’Orchestre de Paris préparé par Lionel Sow est ici au côté des solistes Christiane Karg et Michael Nagy. En première partie, Emanuel Ax, complice de longue date de Christoph von Dohnanyi, interprète le 22e Concerto pour piano de Mozart, qui est à sa manière un autre chant de réconfort.
