Quel est l’objet de la diatribe que prononce votre conférencier ?
Christophe Pellet : Ce conférencier est un auteur de théâtre, mais, même s’il parle du théâtre, ce n’est pas un texte sur le théâtre. C’est un texte sur le malaise social exprimant une exaspération face à une situation plus générale, plus globale, celle de la situation actuelle de la société, celle de la France. Si je parle du théâtre, c’est pour être au plus près de cette exaspération et dénoncer l’essoufflement du système capitaliste et libéral qui ne fonctionne plus. Le théâtre pourrait échapper au phénomène de rendement propre à ce système, mais ce n’est pas le cas. Certes, la situation des écrivains et des hommes de théâtre n’est pas tout à fait la même que celle des ouvriers mais tous subissent la même pression sociale, l’air du temps, ce qu’on appelle communément la crise.
Pourquoi avoir choisi le théâtre comme lieu d’inspiration et d’expression ?
C. P. : J’ai une formation de cinéaste et je fais des films expérimentaux et de l’art vidéo. Pour moi, l’écriture est liée à la forme de la performance. Je laisse les metteurs en scène utiliser mon écriture comme un matériau et n’écris pas en pensant à la scène. Je connais mal le théâtre et j’y vais très peu. Mais en même temps, je travaille beaucoup avec des comédiens de théâtre, je les aime beaucoup, je connais leurs soucis et leurs angoisses. Quelles difficultés ils ont ! Depuis que j’ai écrit ce texte, les choses ont empiré et je crois qu’elles empireront encore. Je ne donne aucune leçon sur tout cela mais je crois que ça va mal et qu’il serait criminel, pour un écrivain d’aujourd’hui, d’accepter le monde tel qu’il va. J’ai choisi le théâtre parce qu’il est lié à l’Etat et qu’il subit sa violence imbécile. Mais le texte dépasse ces seules circonstances. Le personnage principal est un indépendant, un autonomiste, qui ne supporte pas la hiérarchie des structures théâtrales. Il est malheureux. Ses pièces et son travail sont niés puisqu’il ne rentre pas dans le code, qu’il refuse les structures et ne veut pas jouer le rôle qu’on lui impose. Je crois que cet isolement n’est pas seulement celui du créateur mais celui de l’homme postmoderne.

Ce conférencier est-il une sorte d’anarchiste ?
C. P. : Non, je crois que le terme serait réducteur. Il s’agit seulement de décrire une situation, sans donner de leçon. Cette situation est une situation de violence et tout le monde subit cette violence. Même le théâtre qui devrait en être protégé en subit le contrecoup : le théâtre privé subit l’oppression de la télévision et le théâtre public celle du discours lénifiant de la rentabilité. Cette violence est légitimée au plus haut niveau, par le chef du gouvernement. Lorsqu’on a un gouvernement, on est le reflet de ce gouvernement. Si on a Sarkozy c’est parce qu’on l’a voulu et on se met au diapason de son attitude, en cohérence avec son état d’esprit. Peut-être que tout le monde n’a pas « casse-toi pauv’ con ! » à la bouche, mais tout le monde vit dans cette atmosphère. C’est évident en France ; c’est encore plus flagrant en Italie !
Vous vous réclamez de Thomas Bernhard. Pourquoi ?
C. P. : Pour moi, Thomas Bernhard est une figure tutélaire revendiquée, une sorte de modèle, un maître. Oui, ce texte est un hommage à Thomas Bernhard ! Parce qu’il y a dans son écriture une violence et un dynamisme et les conditions d’une révolte salutaire. Il a vu avant tout le monde que la société autrichienne était malade. Thomas Bernhard est quelqu’un qui pointe là où ça fait mal. C’est cela que j’ai voulu retrouver avec ce texte, logorrhée construite pour la scène qui est une sorte de voyage entrepris par le personnage qui part de sa situation d’homme de théâtre pour parler de son exaspération en tant qu’être humain.
