Vingt-trois ans après la collaboration entre Hamid Ben Mahi et Michel Schweizer sur le premier opus de Chronic(s) qui donnait le ton quant à un nouveau genre chorégraphique, ils poursuivent l’écriture d’un deuxième chapitre avec Chronic(s) 2. Créé quelques mois après les attentats du 11 septembre 2001, Chronic(s) était un excellent solo dansé parlé dans lequel Hamid Ben Mahi, sous l’œil aiguisé de Michel Schweizer, nous racontait sa vie de danseur, émaillant son propos de grands pliés effectués dans la célèbre école de Rosella Hightower, et de tours sur la tête réalisés sur le béton près de Bordeaux. Il nous parlait de ses difficultés à se faire admettre en tant que danseur, tandis que ses mouvements virtuoses venaient immédiatement démentir son propos. Chronic(s) 2 n’est pas simplement la suite de l’histoire de ce jeune danseur qui, en 2001, venant du hip-hop, avait forcé les portes des autres styles de danse à coup d’obstination et de volonté. Ce second épisode est aussi une réflexion émouvante sur le temps, l’époque, la danse et le corps qui vieillit… sans se départir d’humour. Une leçon de vie.
