Sacrés débauchés que les mots ! A peine les lancent-on à propos, qu’ils s’acoquinent pour une rime, butinent quelques citations dans l’air du temps, filent autant d’improbables liaisons grivoises ou bien culbutent les préjugés planqués derrière les bienséances. Pierre Desproges pourtant savait les tenir, quitte à les laisser vadrouiller parmi les lieux communs pour mieux les rattraper dans une chute imparable. Présence frondeuse ou pitre philosophe qui rythmait La minute nécessaire de monsieur Cyclopède sur le petit écran, misanthrope humaniste qui contait sur les ondes la Chronique de la haine ordinaire, cet observateur irréductible piquait à la pointe sèche de l’humour les arrangements minables avec la vie, la médiocrité repue et autres tartufferies dérisoires de la bêtise ordinaire. Il les relevait au sel d’une cocasserie rouée et d’un verbe élégant, avec cette façon, mi-médusée, mi-narquoise, d’asséner des aphorismes au détour d’une phrase, l’air de rien, de pousser le paradoxe jusqu’à l’absurde, l’air de rien, toujours. « L’intelligence, c’est le seul outil qui permet à l’homme de mesurer l’étendue de son malheur. » disait-il.
Qu’est-ce que le bonheur ?
C’est dans Les chroniques que Michel Didym a pioché la matière précieuse de ce spectacle délicieusement piquant jusqu’à l’insolence. Le metteur en scène, qui avait déjà fouillé voici quelques années dans les sketches de Desproges, a glané dans les textes radiophoniques qu’il a coupés en petits dialogues. Christine Murillo, la verve charnue et le geste espiègle, et Dominique Valadié, la mine clownesque et l’air malin, croquent à plaisir dans cette langue tendrement féroce, décapée de l’onguent des doucereux euphémismes qui farde les maux par habitude. Entre les contrepèteries, calembours, allusions salaces, vacheries impromptues, slogans publicitaires, envolées lyriques ou chansons populaires, se glisse une critique railleuse de ce curieux mammifère « qui court aux urnes et bronze en août ». Artiste « dégagé » comme il se définissait, provocateur avec panache, grave irrévérencieux, Desproges disait encore : « Il faut rire de tout. C’est extrêmement important. C’est la seule humaine façon de friser la lucidité sans tomber dedans. ».
