SEINE MUSICALE / BOULOGNE-BILLANCOURT / JAZZ
Un duo inspiré s’annonce entre ces deux stars de la musique cubaine : Chucho Valdés (né en 1941) et Gonzalo Rubalcaba (né en 1963). Leur dialogue s’inscrit naturellement dans la riche histoire musicale cubaine, dont ils sont l’un et l’autre de véritables dépositaires des plus cultivés, mais aussi et peut-être tout autant dans un échange plus large et universel, presque télépathique, de musicien à musicien, d’homme à homme, d’âme à âme, de mémoire à mémoire. En toute intensité et intimité. « Notre duo entretient une relation historique avec la tradition cubaine du piano, et c’est ce qui donne à ce projet quelque chose de très particulier. Un son a émergé naturellement, organiquement. Nos deux pianos jouent déjà comme un seul, » souligne l’aîné alors que son cadet ajoute qu’« il aurait été facile de prendre quelques classiques et de les interpréter, mais nous voulions quelque chose de spécial. Nous écrivons tous deux de la musique pour piano et aimons réinventer des airs qui sont des succès populaires et classiques, du répertoire cubain à la musique de Thelonious Monk ». Un concert important qui n’est pas sans rappeler le duo historique entre deux autres musiciens-frères : Chick Corea et Herbie Hancock.
