Mars 2003. Alors que l’armée de George W. Bush déclenchent la deuxième guerre du Golfe, deux jeunes Tokyoïtes venant de faire connaissance lors d’un concert de rock s’enferment, durant cinq jours, dans un « love hôtel » du quartier branché de Shibuya. Isolés, comme hors du temps, ces deux êtres solitaires espèrent inconsciemment, à travers ce retour aux seules satisfactions primaires, échapper à la conscience du désordre extérieur. Peut-être même que lorsqu’ils sortiront de leur chambre, la guerre sera finie… Dans Cinq jours en mars, l’auteur japonais Toshiki Okada dresse le portrait d’une jeunesse nonchalante, désœuvrée, qui accomplit une sorte de voyage immobile. Errance intime, tentative de négation du réel, dépersonnalisation de l’individu contemporain… : un ballet théâtral qui « cherche à recréer une sensation de décalage avec la réalité, une sensation d’euphorie dans la perte des repères qui s’exerce sur chacun ».
