Pantalon à bretelles, chemise à carreaux et vieilles godasses, un drôle de gaillard débarque en scène, la mine ahurie et le sourire enfantin, la bouche pleine de mots tenus au silence. C’est qu’il a beaucoup à dire, mais ne sait pas vraiment comment le dire. Rien à faire. La parole, cette canaille, s’esquive toujours et va courir ailleurs. Qu’à cela ne tienne. Jamie Adkins invente un autre langage pour nous raconter l’humain aux prises avec l’ordinaire malice des objets et les mauvais tours de la vie quotidienne. Circassien poète, clown, jongleur, acrobate et fil-de-fériste, il bricole son petit cirque à hauteur d’homme. « J’aime regarder les êtres humains être humains. » explique-t-il. A 13 ans, il cueillait ses premiers rires dans les rues de San Diego, s’embarquait avec le Pickle Family Circus puis le Cirque Eloize, avant de signer ses propres créations. Influencé « par Chaplin et Keaton via Bugs Bunny », il compose un burlesque de bric et de broc qui charme par son comique décalé et sa virtuosité.
