Exemplaire bâtisseur d’orchestre, Claudio Abbado a donné naissance, en 1986, au désormais très célèbre Orchestre des Jeunes Gustav Mahler, phalange omniprésente dans le circuit international. On connaît moins en France, sinon par quelques disques marquants (Pergolèse, Mozart, Bach) son Mozart Orchestra, créé en 2005 avec de formidables jeunes musiciens de Bologne, porteur d’un projet global ambitieux intégrant des actions sociales, éducatives et caritatives. Invités de la série « 4 étoiles » à Pleyel, l’Orchestre Mozart et son chef glorieux joueront la Symphonie n° 41 «Jupiter» de Mozart, le Concerto pour piano n° 3 de Prokofiev (avec Yuja Wang en soliste) et la Symphonie n° 4 «Italienne» de Mendelssohn. Pour la petite histoire, ce concert parisien est programmé quelques jours à peine après le retour très attendu d’Abbado (les 4 et 6 juin) à la Scala de Milan (dans la Symphonie n°2 « Résurrection » de Mahler) après plus de vingt ans d’absence. Le grand chef italien qui a été directeur musical de la Scala de 1968 à 1986, a fini par répondre favorablement à une invitation lancée opportunément dès son arrivée à Milan par Stéphane Lissner, surintendant de la grande maison d’opéra milanaise.
