« Combat est un thriller qui nous parle de l’amour infini d’un frère pour sa sœur, confie Gilles Granouillet à propos de sa pièce. C’est le parcours d’un homme qui cherche un souffle en endossant une faute qui n’est pas la sienne. C’est une lutte à mort pour le sens de la vie. » Pour donner corps à l’imbroglio familial qui se situe au centre de Combat, Jacques Descorde a choisi de regarder du côté de Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, de Fritz Lang, de David Lynch, de travailler sur le gros plan, le clair-obscur, le visible et l’invisible… « J’aimerais montrer les entrailles de l’intime de cette famille, déclare le metteur en scène. J’aimerais qu’il y ait confusion entre réalité et projection mentale. » Cela, à travers un dispositif scénique modulable qui vise à suggérer tous les lieux, à évoquer l’univers étrange de l’enfermement mental et physique dans lequel se trouvent les personnages.
