Après avoir remarquablement ausculté les musiques post minimalistes dans 3 Works for 12, Alban Richard propose avec sa nouvelle création une variation sur la mélancolie, du XVIIème à la new wave des années 1980. Ce fin connaisseur du baroque comme du contemporain, du savant comme du populaire, s’entoure pour ce faire de huit personnalités de premier plan et s’inspire de l’Anatomie de la mélancolie de Robert Burton, publié en 1621.
Un poème chorégraphique et musical en quatre tableaux
Le directeur du CCN de Caen fouille cette sombre humeur en quatre tableaux. L’incroyable performeuse Chihiro Araki d’abord se confronte à la Fantaisie pour six violes d’Orlando Gibbons retravaillée numériquement. Puis la subtile danseuse Alice Lada donne corps à la partition de Lachrimae or Seven tears de John Dowland interprétée par le consort de violes de gambes l’Achéron et la superbe soprano Céline Scheen. C’est ensuite au tour d’Alban Richard lui-même et du compositeur et Beat-boxer Ezra de plonger dans les affects mélancoliques. Enfin, Céline Scheen fait un pas de côté en chantant un répertoire des New Romantics empreint de nostalgie, tel Tainted Love ou Fade to grey. De son côté Marie de Quatrebarbes, invitée à suivre les répétitions, a écrit un livre-poème dont des fragments seront remis au public lors des représentations.
