« Violemment interpellée par la tournure que prend notre monde », Catherine Anne croque sur le vif une trentaine de personnages d’aujourd’hui en but à diverses formes de pouvoir écrasantes, insidieuses ou dérisoires. Quatre acteurs incarnent ainsi quelque trente « héros obscurs » chez eux, dans une agence de pôle emploi, un studio de télévision, un ministère, devant une école… Tout commence sur la scène d’un théâtre investie par des manifestants, face aux spectateurs qui attendent le début de la représentation du Cid de Corneille. De courtes scènes tragi-comiques, grinçantes ou burlesques, mettent en scène la vitalité ou la difficulté de la résistance humaine à l’oppression. De brefs poèmes ouvrent les séquences, imprimant une tonalité à chacune. L’auteure a pensé à Grand-peur et misère du IIIe Reich de Brecht en écrivant sa pièce. « Je crois à la force de l’écriture dramatique pour saisir au présent ce qui nous trouble et trouble notre société », dit-elle. Dernière mise en scène de Catherine Anne au Théâtre de l’Est Parisien, qu’elle doit quitter en cette fin de saison, Comédies tragiques acquiert aussi à ce titre une force singulière.
