« De jadis à aujourd’hui, le théâtre fut la boussole des naufragés qui cherchent dans la brume et l’arc-en-ciel le masque qui leur servira de radeau. », dit Jean Lambert-wild. C’est avec cette phrase en tête que Michel Bruzat et les siens (Vincent Grelier à la scénographie et Franck Roncière aux lumières) se sont embarqués dans ce voyage à travers le texte de ce « marmonneux songeur », qui plonge dans l’intime du foyer parental pour en tirer des pépites universelles. « Au début il y a la parole du père. Celle qu’on écoute, qu’on croit, qu’on n’ose interrompre. Il y a le silence que la parole impose. Puis vient la parole du fils face à la mère, face à celle qui ne dit rien. Une parole emplie d’affirmation, un torrent de mots. Au final, il y a ce père qui a tout dit et cette mère qui s’est tue. » Michel Bruzat a choisi la vibrante Natalie Royer en Ulysse moderne car, dit le metteur en scène, « nous n’avons qu’une alternative : vivre chez Circé, en hommes-porcs, une vie morte, ou reprendre le grand large, êtres du désir invincible aimantés par l’ouvert et amants du plein vent ».
