Monsieur Mockinpott est un mari fidèle et un travailleur modèle, un de ces hommes qui mènent une vie sans histoires et dont rien ne viendrait jamais déranger le traintrain ordinaire s’il ne croisait un jour l’insulte de l’insensé. Sans raison, Monsieur Mockinpott est arrêté et jeté en prison. Quand il en sort, c’est pour trouver sa femme dans les bras d’un autre, son patron refusant de le réembaucher, la médecine qui se moque de lui, le gouvernement qui l’exploite et même Dieu qui lui refuse tout secours… Monsieur Mockinpott est bien seul dans cette descente aux Enfers… Gwenhaël de Gouvello a choisi de mettre en scène la fable politique écrite par Peter Weiss en habillant de papier journal le chemin de croix du pauvre Mockinpott. Les costumes sont fabriqués en origami afin d’« augmenter la fragilité, la poésie et l’absurdité » de cette parabole grinçante et drôle. Le héros ordinaire de cette comédie tragique décide de continuer à vivre libre malgré la corruption, le cynisme et l’avidité de ses contemporains et son metteur en scène « invite ceux qui partagent cette envie » à suivre les traces résistantes du candide Mockinpott.
