Le Concours international Tchaikovski, lancé en 1958 en pleine guerre froide, est devenu une véritable institution. Mais la prestigieuse compétition était en train de s’essouffler. Depuis peu dirigé par Valery Gergiev en personne, le tout-puissant et impressionnant directeur du théâtre Mariinsky de St-Pétersbourg, le Concours est aujourd’hui en plein renouveau. Sa dernière édition consacrée au piano a fait forte impression en convoquant un jury d’exception présidé par Vladimir Ashkenazy, épaulé de Nelson Freire et du légendaire pianiste américain Van Cliburn (premier vainqueur du Concours en 1958) et en passant commande au compositeur russe Rodion Shchedrin d’une œuvre destinée aux candidats. La dernière édition s’est tenue en juillet dernier et a couronné Daniil Trifonov, âgé de 20 ans, issu de l’Académie russe de musique Gnessine de Moscou. Il sera sur la scène de la Salle Pleyel, entouré des autres finalistes… Des stars de demain à découvrir lors de leurs premiers pas internationaux.
