Cisco Aznar, chorégraphe catalan établi à Lausanne, se saisit du ballet Coppélia, ou La fille aux yeux d’émail, créé en 1870 par Arthur Saint-Léon : le jeune Frantz oublie sa fiancée lorsqu’il tombe amoureux d’une femme entrevue à une fenêtre, qui s’avère être un automate, à qui l’inventeur prévoit de donner vie en profitant de l’attirance du jeune homme. La relecture contemporaine proposée par le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, joyeusement fantaisiste, mêle danse, vidéos, textes en français, anglais et portugais. Frantz et sa fiancée gagnent un concours de danse organisé par une chaîne de télévision. Le prix : un ameublement complet de leur maison le jour de leur union. Mais Frantz, contemplant la vie monotone de ses amis déjà mariés, hésite et repousse le mariage. Il perd l’esprit lorsqu’une créature aux cheveux rouges apparaît à un balcon… Ce nouvel argument est l’occasion d’une variation dansée sur le thème des vicissitudes du couple moderne. Et de la violence du désir.
