La metteuse en scène Judith Depaule se penche depuis quelques spectacles sur la question du genre et sur la sexuation de nos comportements, renvoyant à la catégorisation radicale homme et femme, à ce besoin de normes de la société : « La puissance physique brute – que de nombreux sports exigent – continue à être perçue comme une preuve matérielle et symbolique de l’ascendance biologique des hommes. Plus le sport est dit viril, plus la femme qui l’exerce doit être avenante et afficher les marqueurs obligés de la féminité. » La metteuse en scène est allée en Pologne pour observer Kamila Skolimowska, première championne olympique du lancer du marteau féminin, discipline ouverte aux femmes dans les années 90. Le spectacle est né sur ce mode documentaire, fait de prises de vues vidéo en entraînement et d’entretiens avec l’athlète. Judith Depaule a investi le monde du ballon ovale en côtoyant deux équipes féminines de rugby : l’Athlétic Club Bobigny 93 et le Rugby Club Soisy Andilly Margency 95, un portrait multi faces du jeu à XV. Le plateau est un terrain de jeu pour soliste, un va-et-vient entre scène et documentaire avec Marie de Basquiat pour Le Marteau et Cécile Musitelli pour Le Ballon ovale. Un spectacle pour bousculer les préjugés.
