Disque culte s’il en est, Troupeau bleu fut longtemps une pièce recherchée par tous les amateurs de cire noire, atteignant une cote du genre élevée (plusieurs centaines d’euros au bas mot). Elle est l’œuvre de Cortex, un groupe de jazz funk en version française, piloté par les claviers de l’arrangeur Alain Mion, auteur de l’introductif La Rue, titre référence pour les DJ des deux côtés de l’Atlantique. L’album fut d’ailleurs largement samplé par les DJ : MF Doom comme Tyler The Creator, Madlib et tant d’autres y ont trouvé matière. Précurseur, le Français DJ Cam puisa lui aussi à la source de ce groupe qui, en une poignée de titres, principalement entre 1975 et 1979, peut légitimement prétendre au statut de signal avant-coureur de la French Touch qui vingt ans plus tard inondera la planète. Ce n’est pas par hasard si c’est justement au milieu des années 1990 que l’on redécouvrira Cortex, à travers des rééditions des LP originaux mais aussi, et peut-être surtout, un inédit daté de 1979 où se niche sans doute leur thème le plus stratosféérique : I heard a sigh ! Un souffle inspirant.
