Rassemblés autour d’une démarche chorégraphique et cinématographique, l’Orchestre de Mulhouse, l’Ensemble TM+ et le musicien et compositeur malien Ballaké Sissoko se partagent le plateau. C’est le vidéaste Thierry de Mey qui est à l’origine de cette rencontre et de ce projet audacieux, né il y a plus de dix ans, et à la réactualisation savoureuse au vue des nouveaux protagonistes. Proche de la danse par sa complicité avec Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker, Thierry de Mey est parti du principe d’inverser la relation entre danse et musique : à partir de courts-métrages chorégraphiques réalisés par ses soins avec la chorégraphe, il a passé commande auprès de compositeurs contemporains et de musiciens traditionnels africains pour en élaborer la musique. C’est donc la danse et l’image qui préexistent, avant la musique. La version 2016 est la synthèse de tout le parcours de Counter Phrases, aujourd’hui repris par l’Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse et l’Ensemble TM+. Ballaké Sissoko, accompagné de quatre musiciens maliens, donnera à cette soirée ciné-danse une nouvelle dimension, faisant résonner sa kora au cœur des images jusqu’aux corps.
