Quel est le rôle d’un compositeur de musique de film ?
Craig Armstrong : Mon rôle est de trouver une musique qui soit en empathie avec le film. Elle doit s’impliquer dans le drame au même titre qu’un personnage. Si la musique est réussie et inventive, elle peut lier tous les autres éléments entre eux et ainsi élever le film à un très haut niveau.
Comment définiriez-vous votre esthétique de compositeur ?
C.A. : Je tente d’écrire une musique qui vit avec notre époque. Je souhaite que mes œuvres soient communicatives et donnent de l’émotion à ceux qui les écoutent.
Comment avez-vous conçu le programme du Festival de Saint-Denis ?
C.A. : Le programme comprend trois pièces que j’ai récemment écrites : Immer, One Minute et Memory Takes My Hand. Immer est doux et délicat, One Minute se révèle peut-être plus formel et cérébral. Et Memory Takes My Hand (avec chœur et soprano) est une pièce grand public qui se conclut avec l’orchestre au grand complet, en apothéose.
