Le Kimpun est la poudre d’or dont se recouvraient les danseurs du cabaret burlesque japonais lors de spectacles qui firent la gloire de l’avant-garde artistique des années 60 et 70. Maro Akaji, légende du théâtre underground nippon et directeur charismatique de la compagnie Dairakudakan, a lui-même participé, à l’époque, à ces Kimpun Shows, sous la houlette de Tatsumi Hijikata, un des fondateurs du butô. Crazy Camel,
clin d’œil au Crazy Horse, est une création inspirée de cette tradition méconnue, interprétée par les douze danseurs du « Grand Vaisseau du chameau » (les Dairakudakan). Alors que dans le butô, les corps des danseurs sont maquillés de poudre blanche, le Kimpun Show les nimbe d’or. Ses numéros appartiennent au registre « iro-mono », insolite, scandaleux, et parfois méprisé, car considéré comme trivial et trop populaire. Pourtant, c’est le Kimpun Show qui a sauvé le butô, puisque les recettes de ses tournées ont permis aux danseurs de survivre et de maintenir vivant l’art de la « danse des ténèbres ». Le Kimpun Show, face cachée du butô, joue pour la première fois hors du Japon : un événement à ne pas manquer !
