Née en Inde, danseuse remarquable de Bharatanatyam, Rukmini Chatterjee fait ses débuts dès l’âge des treize ans, et devient l’une des ambassadrices de cette danse classique de l’Inde, notamment à Paris où elle s’installe. Aussi à l’aise sur des plateaux télé qu’au cinéma (Tony Gatlif), elle ose très souvent les mélanges, donnant à son art millénaire et sacré une contemporanéité parfois surprenante. La danse indienne, dans Anokha avec la compagnie hip hop Accrorap, c’est elle ! Son intérêt pour la rencontre entre les cultures se ressent très fortement dans cette nouvelle pièce, intitulée très sobrement Rencontre. Avec six danseurs et cinq musiciens sur scène, elle met en jeu différents styles et techniques très identifiées : le Bharatanatyam, le Kathak (deux danses classiques de l’Inde, l’une du sud, l’autre du nord) et la danse classique occidentale (on note d’ailleurs la collaboration de la danseuse Wilfride Piollet). En miroir, la musique reflète également les trois influences avec la musique Hindustani, Carnatique, et occidentale.
