Le Chemin du but est inspiré du destin du footballeur Jean-Pierre Adams. Pourquoi ?
Nadia Xerri-L. : Le foot, c’était mon sport d’enfance et d’adolescence : j’ai gardé un lien très fort à l’adrénaline, au danger, à la vulnérabilité des sportifs. Dans un numéro de juin 2008 de l’Equipe Magazine, j’ai découvert l’histoire de Jean-Pierre Adams. Dans le même temps, j’ai entendu dans Interception, sur France Inter, un petit garçon venu d’Afrique dire : « moi, je dois être né dans la mer, parce qu’en France je suis étranger, et en Afrique, je suis étranger ». Moi qui ai vécu toute mon enfance en Côte d’Ivoire, je n’ai pas compris ce qui faisait de moi une Française, quand je suis arrivée en France à neuf ans. J’ai toujours été très sensible à la double culture. On est obsédé par l’identité (au point d’en faire un ministère), par l’intégration, mais qu’est-ce qu’on raconte du paradoxe, du divorce en soi de toute double culture ? Le coma de Jean-Pierre Adams et le souvenir de ce petit garçon m’ont fait penser que cet homme, ni noir, ni français, avait choisi le coma comme seul pays possible, comme seul lieu résolvant la contradiction de son identité.

Qu’y a-t-il de commun entre ces deux solos ?
N. X.-L. : L’origine de Julie telle que est aussi un fait divers, celui qui a inspiré Couteau de nuit : l’histoire d’un jeune homme jugé pour le meurtre d’un autre du même âge, après une soirée trop arrosée. Julie est sa jeune sœur. Pendant que le reste de la famille se rend au procès, elle reste seule et fuit : la pièce est le récit de son road movie. Par la parole, maïeutique, les personnages naissent à eux-mêmes, cherchent à comprendre ce qui les fonde, et sortent des contradictions qui les fragilisaient. J’adore ces deux solos et je ne pouvais pas choisir de jouer l’un ou l’autre : cela aurait été une amputation. Et je trouve que c’est assez beau et très excitant de voir comment un univers se développe et de pouvoir découvrir le second solo si on a aimé le premier.
Vous êtes vous-même à la régie de ces deux spectacles techniquement autonomes. Pourquoi ?
N. X.-L. : Je ne supporte pas qu’il faille attendre pour que le théâtre soit. Aujourd’hui, on est de plus en plus dépressif à cause de la baisse des moyens, et tout est prétexte à ce qu’on en fasse de moins en moins. Or, comme je suis joyeuse, je veux créer des moments de théâtre où on n’a besoin de rien : rien ni personne ne peut alors nous empêcher de faire du théâtre. C’est ma réponse, presque politique, à la crise. C’est aussi le moyen d’aller à la rencontre des gens et de dialoguer, par le son et la lumière, avec le comédien. Ça crée de l’instant pur qui peut exister partout : là, j’ai vraiment l’impression de faire du théâtre public.
