« Il ne s’agit plus de parler des clichés de la société portugaise, de la mer, des marins, des découvreurs qui partaient et des femmes restées seules à pleurer. Le fado représente beaucoup plus que ça, c’est parler d’aujourd’hui » affirme Cristina Branco, la magnifique diva portugaise qu’on ne présente plus, grande voix d’une incroyable génération d’artistes post-Amalia Rodrigues. Parmi ceux-ci, une écrasante majorité de femmes, mais aussi Camané (et une poignée d’autres) qui n’ont pas oublié que les premiers fadistas étaient des hommes… A l’inverse de Cristina Branco, qui fit par hasard la découverte du fado à l’âge de 18 ans, Camané semble être « tombé dedans » quand il était petit et s’inscrire plus spontanément dans la tradition. Enfant prodige, il fut formé à la rude école des Casas de Fados, temples du fado traditionnel. Sur la scène du Théâtre de la Ville, haut lieu des musiques du monde à Paris depuis plus de 30 ans, la chanteuse à la beauté de Madone et le prince aux yeux clairs seront accompagnés et réunis par José Manuel Neto, géant de la guitare portugaise qui sait avec maestria tirer « les larmes de Lisbonne » de sa guitare (titre de son premier disque personnel paru en 1997).
