Tout se déroule dans une joyeuse ambiance de piano-bar, le temps d’un dîner. Entrée, plat et dessert se succèdent dans les assiettes de spectateurs attablés, tandis que sur scène les comédiens des compagnies Laika et Circo Ripopolo ouvrent les portes d’une cuisine en délire. « Dans Cucinema, expliquent les artistes belges, les chefs cuisiniers et les acteurs font fi des traditions culinaires et de l’ordre qui sont de mise dans les restaurants professionnels. Ils font table rase des techniques gastronomiques raffinées pour concocter des petits plats à leur manière. » Des plats qui crèvent l’écran, des bouteilles funambules qui se balancent sur une corde… Dans un style qui s’inspire des films de cinéma muet des années 1920, Cucinema déploie les atours d’un théâtre saugrenu et déjanté, résolument burlesque. Un théâtre visuel, quasiment sans parole, conçu comme « une invitation à palper, humer, voir, écouter et savourer ».
