Bien que moins célèbre que Gallé, Guimard ou Gaudi, Alexandre Charpentier est pourtant l’un des artisans majeurs de l’émergence de l’Art nouveau. Sa courte mais brillante carrière se déroule de 1883 à 1905. En marge de l’exposition qui lui est consacrée au Musée d’Orsay, un cycle de concerts souligne ses profondes affinités avec la musique. Alexandre Charpentier pratique le violoncelle, et dans son atelier trône un piano à queue autour duquel il accueille ses complices musiciens. Parmi eux, Debussy dont il est l’ami intime et qui lui dédie Cloches à travers les feuilles, dans le deuxième livre des Images pour piano. Outre le concert du 5 février avec les Chœur et Solistes de Lyon (voir plus haut), deux concerts captivants de ce cycle sont à noter en février. Le 12 à 20 h, le Chœur de Radio-France (direction Michel Tranchant) chante des œuvres de Fauré, Chabrier, Massenet, Gounod, Debussy, Chausson et Franck. Le 21 février à 20h, François Chaplin réunit autour de son piano une belle équipe chambriste composée de Nicolas Dautricourt (violon), Emmanuelle Bertrand (violoncelle) et Patrick Messina (clarinette) qui dialoguent avec Jean-Claude Carrière (récitant), explorant la Correspondance de Debussy. Sur les pupitres, des œuvres de Schumann (Phantasiestücke pour clarinette et piano, op. 73), Ysaÿe (Sonate n°3 en ré mineur dite « La ballade »), Chopin (Nocturne op.62 n°1), Ravel (Sonate pour violon et piano, opus posthume) et Debussy (Première Rhapsodie pour clarinette et piano ; Sonate n° 1 pour violoncelle et piano en ré mineur ; Elégie, pour piano seul).
