« Une île, un monde », le titre de ce court cycle résume bien la singularité esthétique insulaire, traversée de multiples courants. Pour preuves, ces deux confettis qui ont donné vie à deux cultures créolisées dont on aura ici un aperçu. Tout d’abord La Réunion à travers trois musiques métissées : les tambours malbar, symboles de la communauté tamoule débarquée à la fin de l’esclavage ; le maloya, une espèce de blues original, chanté par deux de ses légataires, Urbain Philéas et Firmin Viry ; le séga lors d’un grand bal dirigé par le multi-instrumentiste René Lacaille, un enfant de la balle. Ensuite, Mayotte via ses chants et ses danses, incarnés par le luth de Del accompagné d’un ensemble de percussions, puis les voix mystiques de la tradition deba, exclusivement féminine.
