Commencé en avril dernier, l’hommage rendu à Messiaen par l’Orchestre philharmonique de Radio France a montré une fois encore l’extrême familiarité de Myung-Whun Chung avec cette musique et son envie de faire partager l’élan spirituel du compositeur. Avant de se confronter, le 31 octobre, à l’opéra Saint François d’Assise, le chef propose ainsi, en deux concerts, trois œuvres symphoniques de Messiaen, significatives de l’évolution de son style. Le 26 septembre, le bref Hymne au Saint Sacrement (1933) voisine avec le Concert à quatre, hommage – laissé inachevé – de Messiaen à la tradition française. Pour cette œuvre (dont il est le dédicataire aux côtés de Mstislav Rostropovitch, Heinz Holliger, Catherine Cantin et Yvonne Loriod), Myung-Whun Chung s’entoure de solistes du Philharmonique ; il fera de même le 4 octobre, interprétant la partie de piano du Quatuor pour la fin du temps. Le 3 octobre enfin, l’orchestre et son chef jouent la Turangalîlâ-Symphonie, dans laquelle ils retrouveront le pianiste Roger Muraro et Valérie Hartmann-Claverie aux ondes Martenot.
