On le sait, Paul Klee a entretenu avec la musique des liens forts et passionnés, comme en témoigne son grand talent de violoniste. L’exposition de la Cité de la musique éclaire l’intérêt du peintre pour la musique, les traces qu’elle a laissées dans son œuvre picturale mais aussi les relations qu’il entretint avec les compositeurs de son temps comme Schönberg, Busoni, Bartók ou Hindemith. Des musiciens que l’on retrouve souvent au programme d’une série de concerts qui accompagne l’exposition : le 19 octobre, Patrick Davin dirige l’Orchestre du Conservatoire de Paris dans Hindemith (Trauermusik) et Schönberg (musique d’accompagnement pour une scène de film) ; le 20, David Grimal et ses Dissonances jouent Bartok, Webern et Beethoven ; le 25, le Pierrot lunaire de Schonberg, qualifié par Klee dans son Journal d’ « extravagant mélodrame », est interprété sous la direction de Pavel Hula avec la soprano Alda Caeillo au « chant parlé » qui reviendra le lendemain, en compagnie du Quatuor Prazak, dans la Suite lyrique de Berg… A noter aussi, le 23, le spectacle de théâtre musical Zeugen de Georges Aperghis, qui signe aussi la mise en scène ; le 27, le monodrame Cassandre de Michael Jarrell interprété, en version de concert, par l’EIC et sa directrice musicale Susanna Malkki (voir plus bas) ; et enfin une table ronde sur le thème « Paul Klee, peintre et musicien » le 29 à 15 h.
