C’est à coup sûr l’un des événements de la saison lyrique parisienne : la venue de Placido Domingo au Théâtre du Châtelet. Difficile de résumer en quelques mots la carrière de ce ténor légendaire, aujourd’hui également chef d’orchestre. Sa voix chaude, à la projection insolente, brille en particulier dans l’opéra italien. On le retrouve donc tout naturellement au Théâtre du Châtelet dans un opéra de Franco Alfano, un compositeur de la Péninsule, connu pour avoir achevé la partition de Turandot de Puccini. En 1936 était créé à Rome son Cyrano de Bergerac, écrit d’après l’œuvre d’Edmond Rostand. Au côté de Placido Domingo figurent notamment la sensuelle Nathalie Manfrino et deux gosiers bien connus des spectateurs du Châtelet, Doris Lamprecht et Laurent Alvaro. La mise en scène est signée Petrika Ionesco, spécialiste des grands shows (Ben-Hur au Stade de France, c’est lui) et la direction musicale est assurée par Patrick Fournillier.
