« L’esprit qui voltige n’est-il pas la plus belle victoire sur la carcasse qui tremble ? » Ainsi s’exprime Edmond Rostand, lors de son discours de réception à l’Académie française. Cet esprit brillant et insoumis caractérise Cyrano, l’une des pièces les plus connues du répertoire. Pièce admirable célébrant le verbe et le théâtre, héros admirable et libre, courageux et audacieux, aimant en secret Roxane, et pensant impossible qu’il soit aimé. Cyrano avoue admirablement son amour sous le masque du beau Christian, et se condamne à la solitude. Pour s’attaquer à un tel monument, il faut d’abord savoir à qui confier le rôle-titre ; Georges Lavaudant fait confiance à un immense artiste, qu’il connaît de longue date, Patrick Pineau. « Cyrano se défend à lui-même de parler d’amour – et il défend au monde entier de parler de son nez. Lui seul en a le droit. Ces deux interdits créent une tension verbale et humaine extraordinaires. » souligne le metteur en scène. « C’est toujours le langage qui fait avancer l’histoire, c’est ce grand style lyrique et non dénué d’ironie qui fait tenir tout cela ensemble. » Georges Lavaudant et son équipe d’acteurs s’emparent de ce texte puissant avec sincérité et subtilité.
