Malgré l’esprit communautaire de la compagnie et le côté ritualiste de leurs performances, les danseurs de Dairakudakan sont invités à s’émanciper pour mener leurs propres travaux. Un exemple que donne d’ailleurs Akaji Maro lui-même, qui flirte avec le cinéma chez Kitano et Tarantino… Takuya Muramatsu, depuis quinze ans aux côtés de Maro et directeur de l’école de la compagnie, signe ici Dobu, une pièce profilée sur les travers de notre monde. Loin d’un propos écolo, elle met en scène les déchets que l’on produit. Au sommet de ce tas de déchets, le corps humain, dans le grotesque et la difformité.
Une pièce masculine, une autre féminine
Yupiters, créée également en 2007, est à l’inverse de Dobu une pièce essentiellement féminine. Yuko Kobayashi entraîne ses neuf danseuses dans un univers étrange et surnaturel, reflet d’un monde où l’homme n’est plus tout à fait humain. Elle s’inspire de légendes animistes d’une ethnie russe, dans lesquelles on considère les animaux comme des hommes vêtus de peaux de bêtes. Le monde qu’elle dépeint, en constante transformation, évolue sous le joug de la femme, dans un rituel mystérieux proche de la nature.
