Avec leurs visages fardés de blanc aux joues rouges, les Dakh Daughters sont loin, très loin de la sagesse figée des matriochkas. Elles mélangent l’esthétique de la propagande soviétique et la tradition des Carpates profondes, tout comme elles fusionnent le rock alternatif et les chœurs de femmes slaves. Grosse caisse et percussions, contrebasse, violoncelle, guitare, claviers et chants créent un spectacle politico-artistique grandiose et inusité. « A notre époque, on ne peut pas parler sérieusement de choses sérieuses, s’inquiète Vlad Troitskyi, metteur en scène. Tout le monde utilise une forme d’ironie, de simulation. Dans le même sens, on divertit le public mais on ne le fait pas réfléchir. Moi je lui demande un travail ». Car si la beauté du show se suffit en soi, les Dakh relèvent de la satire sociale, de la nécessaire lutte subversive.
