En 2002, quand le Ballet du Rhin présenta au Théâtre de la Ville une reprise de Dance (1979), de Lucinda Childs, ce fut un choc : la danse de l’une des chefs de file des post-modernes américains et de la « Judson Church » pouvait-elle vivre dans des corps façonnés par la danse classique ? En s’exposant à l’incompréhension, voire aux critiques, la chorégraphe et le Ballet du Rhin nous faisaient en réalité le cadeau d’exposer la façon dont une oeuvre parcourt le temps, s’insinue dans des espaces différents de ceux de sa naissance, se donne à voir autrement. Dans la minutie de l’interprétation, on goûtait la précision de cette magnifique pièce dans laquelle la danseuse, de façon quasi hypnotique, parcourt le plateau en d’inlassables circonvolutions, en un cycle à la fois semblable et toujours différent.
Fragments d’émotion
Le résultat était si concluant que le Ballet du Rhin, qui a noué une relation privilégiée avec Lucinda Childs, présente à nouveau Dance. Le programme présenté du 14 au 17 avril comporte également une pièce récente, composée par la chorégraphe pour les danseurs du Ballet en 2009 : Songs from Before, qui nous invite à suivre, au fil des déplacements de grands panneaux transparents, les entrelacs de douze danseurs. Des allées et venues poétiques : comme le dit Lucinda Childs, « il y a des couples, mais ce ne sont jamais des couples amoureux, ce sont simplement des gens, ensemble, parfois ça se passe bien entre eux, parfois pas. Ce qui m’intéresse, ce sont des atmosphères, comme des fragments d’une émotion ».
