Leonard Cohen est sans doute l’un des artistes québécois le plus connu et le plus adulé à l’international. C’est probablement pourquoi il a été choisi pour incarner, via le corps des danseurs des Ballets Jazz de Montréal, le 375e anniversaire de Montréal. « Lorsque j’ai pensé à Montréal, en quelques secondes j’ai fait l’association avec Leonard Cohen » explique Louis Robitaille, directeur du BJM. Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal lui rendent donc un hommage dansé dans un spectacle qui parcourt cinquante ans de sa carrière, le BJM ayant obtenu, du vivant de l’auteur, l’exclusivité des droits des chansons jusqu’en 2022. Mis en scène par trois chorégraphes de renom (Andonis Foniadakis, Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, Ihsan Rustem), les quatorze danseurs de la troupe offrent une performance saisissante, très visuelle, tout en puissance et en fluidité, qui parcourt les plus grands succès du sublime et déchirant poète (de Suzanne à Hallelujah, en passant par Dance me to the end of love). Coïncidence ? Un album posthume sort le 22 novembre. Hallelujah !
