Comment avez-vous orienté la musique de ce nouvel opus ?
Daniel Mille : En général, je ne choisis pas de faire un disque dans telle esthétique ou tel style. J’affronte la page blanche en ne m’interdisant aucune possibilité et je compose sans tenir compte d’une formation précise. C’est seulement quand j’ai la musique que l’instrumentation et le choix des musiciens s’imposent. La couleur et l’atmosphère de la musique s’installent alors tout naturellement…
Feriez-vous une autre musique si vous jouiez d’un autre instrument ou joueriez-vous d’un autre instrument si vous aviez en vous une autre musique ?
D.M. : C’est une question que je me suis déjà posée… J’ai envie de penser que je ferais la même musique si j’étais pianiste ou violoncelliste. Quand je compose, j’essaie de ne pas être seulement accordéoniste, j’essaie d’être musicien. Cela dit, on ne peut pas ne pas tenir compte de la particularité de cet instrument, de son histoire, de ce qu’il évoque… Ce n’est pas par hasard qu’il est l’instrument des mariages et des enterrements, dans presque tous les pays du monde !
Vous souvenez-vous de la première fois que vous avez entendu le son d’un accordéon ?
D.M. : Non, mais la musique était très présente à la maison. Mon père dirigeait un orchestre de danse. Par contre, je me souviens de la première fois que j’ai vu un accordéon de près. C’était à Grenoble, quinze jours avant Noël et j’avais onze ans. Cet accordéon pavanait dans la vitrine du seul magasin de musique de la ville, magnifique, au milieu des guirlandes et des autres instruments. Je n’ai vu que lui ! Il y avait un papier qui indiquait qu’il était vendu… Mon père, secrètement, s’était endetté pour quelques années. C’était le mien !
