Il faut se rendre à l’évidence du talent de Daniel Veronese : si vous voulez voir un théâtre absolument vivant, humainement dessiné par la force dramatique et l’engagement total des acteurs, foncez ! Pas de scénographie soignée ici, plutôt une scénographie d’occasion ; tout est resserré, concentré, charnel, et pourtant comme décuplé. Le théâtre est mensonge, la scène est étriquée, presque triviale, mais le jeu est… époustouflant, remarquablement vrai ! Ainsi lorsque le metteur en scène retravaille et réécrit en quelque sorte les classiques, on peut être sûr que la déconstruction très solide saura toucher le spectateur, car les œuvres ici s’inscrivent au présent, à travers un regard personnel concret, aigu, quotidien, qui ose la proximité et l’empathie. Veronese se confronte à « la nécessité de trouver la vérité dans chaque phrase, chaque mot ou situation », faisant naître une émouvante intensité et une grande fluidité dans les relations.
Drame poignant
Le metteur en scène argentin a ainsi créé sa version des pièces Les trois Sœurs, Oncle Vania de Tchekhov, puis Une Maison de poupée et Hedda Gabler d’Ibsen, donnant à chaque fois à ses oeuvres des titres énigmatiques, totalement personnels. Le Festival d’Automne permet de voir ou revoir Le Développement d’une civilisation à venir d’après Une Maison de poupée, drame poignant de la condition féminine, et aussi de découvrir une création d’après La Mouette de Tchekhov, Les enfants se sont endormis. « C’est en cela que les Argentins ressemblent aux Russes… Nous voulons tous quelque chose que nous n’avons pas », dit Veronese. Une quête de bonheur infiniment touchante et cruelle, où les illusions et les frustrations noient le désir, y compris artistique…
