« Si vous marchez dehors, à cette heure et en ce lieu, c’est que vous désirez quelque chose que vous n’avez pas, et cette chose, moi, je peux vous la fournir.» Une voix perce la pénombre et s’égare dans cette nuit infinie qui s’enfuit vers nulle part. Dès les premiers mots surgissant Dans la solitude des champs de coton, pièce que Koltès écrit en 1986, se dessine l’espace du dialogue, qui sera toujours négocié : le désir comme « deal », comme nœud de la relation à l’autre. « Chez Koltès, les logiques opposées du supposé et du vraisemblable s’unissent dans une danse de mort qui n’est que pure jouissance de la fin de l’autre. Car le désir de l’autre est aussi toujours le désir de mettre fin à l’autre… le plus tard possible ? » note Roland Auzet. Le metteur en scène livre sa vision de l’œuvre, confiant les rôles du « dealer » et du « client » à deux comédiennes de forte trempe : Anne Alvaro et Audrey Bonnet. Il place la rencontre au cœur d’un centre commercial, symbole des rapports marchands unissant les deux protagonistes. Dans cet espace public, la langue de Koltès pousse le jeu de la possession et de la dépossession au paroxysme, en une confrontation de haute tension.
