En avril 2001, Guillaume Vincent postulait pour entrer à l’école du Théâtre National de Strasbourg. En mars-avril 2021, devenu depuis metteur en scène, il est invité à l’École du Nord pour un stage de six semaines avec les élèves-comédiens. C’est lorsque le Covid met un terme aux répétitions que l’artiste réalise cet écart de vingt ans si parfait qu’il en est troublant. Il propose aux sept jeunes artistes de la promotion 6 d’écrire avec lui une fiction qui se nourrirait aussi bien des souvenirs qu’il garde de son époque que du présent. Naît alors Vertige (2001-2021). Dans cette pièce qui raconte les années d’étude d’un groupe de jeunes acteurs, les époques s’entremêlent. La coupe du monde de 1998, le 11 septembre ou encore l’arrivée de la téléréalité rencontrent les joies et les tragédies contemporaines dans le plus simple appareil du théâtre. Avec ses amours, ses haines, ses amitiés, ses illusions perdues, ses quêtes d’altérité.
