La Maison de la musique de Nanterre, en novembre et décembre, fait honneur à la danse, une expression artistique qui fut longtemps considérée comme indissociable de la musique. De nos jours encore, en dépit des grands discours sur « l’indépendance enfin conquise » qui serait celle de la danse, on doit reconnaître que la danse se déploie en général « sur » la musique… La proposition de « Danse en automne », dont les choix de programmation viennent pertinemment remettre en jeu ce lieu commun, est donc on ne peut plus réjouissante. Ce temps fort présente d’abord l’intérêt d’ouvrir sur des esthétiques extrêmement diverses : du hip-hop de Mourad Merzouki (dont Boxe, Boxe sera présenté du 17 au 19 novembre) aux constructions abstraites d’Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker (qui présentera Mikrokosmos les 25 et 26 novembre). Robyn Orlin présente …have you hugged, kissed and respected your brown Venus today ? le 6 décembre,et déploie quant à elle une danse politique, qui prend sa source dans l’histoire tragique de Saartjie Baartman, jeune Africaine exhibée comme une bête de foire dans l’Europe du XIXe siècle, et qui finit disséquée comme « spécimen ethnologique ».
Nourrir le regard par l’écoute
Or chacune de ces esthétiques se caractérise par une technique corporelle et un langage scénique spécifiques, mais également par son rapport à la musique. Sur son ring qui questionne les liens entre la boxe et la chorégraphie, Mourad Merzouki convoque aussi le Quatuor Debussy, quatuor à cordes dont la musique – Ravel, Schubert, Philip Glass – dialogue étonnamment avec la vigueur des danseurs. Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker est accompagnée d’un quatuor à cordes et d’un duo de pianistes interprétant Bartok et Ligeti : elle puise dans la musique l’architecture de compositions vertigineuses. Quant à Robyn Orlin, mêlant danse, théâtre, musique et images documentaires, elle invente un nouveau genre spectaculaire. Et pour inviter le spectateur à affiner sa perception de ces deux arts et de leurs relations, « Danse en automne » propose un nombre important de rencontres, projections, concerts, salons de musique directement reliés au travail des chorégraphes invités. Une façon de nourrir la vue par l’ouïe, et vice-versa.
