Une musique emblématique de l’Ile de la Réunion, aux origines africaines, malgache et indienne. C’est en 1973, à l’âge de 18 ans, dans la fièvre libertaire du retour à la terre du début des années 70, qu’il découvre le Maloya alors tombé dans l’oubli… Depuis, Waro a su redonner aux Réunionnais conscience et fierté de leur identité culturelle et musicale. A la fois musicien, poète créole, et luthier (il fabrique lui-même ses percussions traditionnelles : kayams, roulérs ou pikérs), Danyel Waro est un artiste viscéralement impliqué dans son art, qu’il ne dissocie pas de ses convictions sociales et politiques. Invité du festival d’Ile-de-France, sous la belle halle Renaissance d’un petit village de l’Essonne, il chante accompagné de Laurent Dalleau (congas, chant), Vincent Philéas (rouler, chant), Damien Mandrin (kayanm, chant) et Thierry Abmon (sati, piker, chant).
