C’est un très jeune chef allemand, encore peu connu des mélomanes parisiens, que réinvite l’Orchestre national de France. Et pourtant… David Afkham, né en 1983, a frappé la scène musicale internationale en remportant en 2010 le premier Prix des jeunes chefs d’orchestre du « Nestlé and Salzburg Festival », suivi de près d’un premier concert (triomphal) au pupitre de l’Orchestre des jeunes du Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester. Depuis, ce disciple de Bernard Haitink, qu’il considère comme son mentor et dont il a été l’assistant à de nombreuses reprises, a continué d’évoluer et de construire une personnalité de chef, naturellement influencée par les exigences de profondeur de portée humaniste de son maître. Il a en particulier entamé des collaborations avec quelques-unes des plus prestigieuses phalanges internationales, de l’Orchestre du Concertgebouw à l’Orchestre de Cleveland ou le Mahler Chamber Orchestra et l’Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. A Paris, au podium du National, David Afkham dirigera l’Ouverture «Coriolan» de Beethoven, le Concerto pour violon de Brahms (avec Viktoria Mullova en soliste) et le Concerto pour orchestre de Bartók. Un chef à connaître absolument.
