Clarinettiste virtuose, David Krakauer apparaît dans le paysage musical international comme l’un des réinventeurs les plus radicaux et impertinents de l’ancestrale musique klezmer. De son creuset new-yorkais, où il a vu le jour et fait ses études, à la Juilliard School en particulier (avec un crochet par le Cnsm de Paris), il bouscule la tradition en mixant le son klezmer avec les musiques de notre époque, du jazz le plus débridé au funk le moins polissé. Son nouveau groupe « Ancestral Groove », auteur de l’album « Checkpoint » sorti au printemps dernier (avec entre autres le guitariste Marc Ribot en invité), fait le choix de nous réchauffer le cœur à l’électricité, dans un répertoire de compositions personnelles et de reprises de John Zorn. Ça chante, ça vibre, ça crie, ça danse… La musique la plus « live » qui soit, servie par Keepalive (échantillonneur), Jerome Harris (basse acoustique), Michael Sarin (batterie) et Sheryl Bailey (guitare).
