Cabaret, La Liste de Schindler, Le Pianiste, Radio Days… Avec son nouvel album qui sort chez Label Bleu, intitulé The Big Picture, le clarinettiste donne sa vision de classiques associés au grand écran. « Tout le monde a en tête ces films, ou du moins la plupart. L’idée de ce projet est d’ouvrir des fenêtres vers ce public, mais aussi vers ceux qui ne prêtent pas toujours attention aux musiques de film. J’ai choisi de revisiter ce matériel, avec un sextet plus en capacité d’improviser, de jouer plus funk ou classique. Ce disque correspond parfaitement à la diversité esthétique qui compose ma personnalité. » A partir de cette nouvelle « bande » originale, mais aussi du matériau visuel originel, des films ont été construits et seront projetés sur scène. « Nous avons renversé le process : c’est la bande-son qui a guidé la fabrication des images ! » Résultat : un concert en format cinématique, ou plutôt une projection multimédia, qui évoque toutes les facettes de la diaspora juive new-yorkaise, du rire aux larmes, de l’orthodoxie post-klezmer aux boucles hip-hop hétérodoxes.
