« Je parle yiddish avec ma clarinette, c’est ma façon de retrouver mes racines. » David Krakauer fait partie de cette génération qui au sortir des années 1980 a redonné des lettres de noblesse à la musique de ses ancêtres débarqués d’Europe de l’Est. A commencer par Naftule Brandwein, l’un des maîtres à jouer du style klezmer. La bonne étoile de David l’a surtout amené à naviguer au-delà des styles, d’un hommage à Sidney Bechet au Kronos Quartet, du label de John Zorn au funk des JB’s Horns, de Janàcek aux musiques électroniques. Cet ancien des Klezmatics revisite la tradition avec ses propres arguments, jazz libre et rock psyché, pour atteindre une ivresse rarement entendue. « Ce qui me plaît, c’est lorsque je suis juste à la limite, quelque part entre le klezmer et autre chose. C’est cette frontière sur laquelle je veux évoluer. »
