Démonstratif pudique, Lafore planque une sévère excentricité sous un costume de mec d’à côté. Entretien très sérieux avec un zouave réfléchi.
Interprète effronté, chanteur nonchalant, David Lafore a la voix ronde et le verbe haut. Ses textes se permettent l’incisif et la simplicité – un rien pataphysiciens parfois – tandis que l’homme donne dans le ton désinvolte, et sa musique dans un rock aux arrangements faussement sobres. Avec une retenue presque virginale, Lafore se permet les pires impudeurs. Homme de scène, Lafore se débarrasse des clichés du chanteur pour révéler ses ambitions d’un stand-up trans-genre, où rock, théâtre et absurdités se fondent en un seul homme.

Avez-vous déjà joué à Avignon?
David Lafore : J’avais déjà joué dans une cour, et au Delirium, on va dire que c’est en gros ma première programmation off. A l’AFEV, je joue seul, avec guitare ou sans, notamment des chansons de l’album en préparation, avec pas mal de moments parlés. Comme récemment au Théâtre des Déchargeurs à Paris, je vais lire une nouvelle que j’ai écrite, l’histoire d’une famille, « Le bonheur existe ». Certains pourront même y croire, à ce bonheur, enfin au début, puis tout devient écoeurant, presque fascisant de bonheur! Petit à petit, mes spectacles glissent vers une forme moins concert, plus théâtre…
Un retour aux sources’
D . L. : En fait, j’ai toujours eu l’impression de faire du théâtre : j’ai débuté sur scène, à Marseille, par le théâtre pour enfants, et la chanson est restée un prétexte pour être devant des gens et faire n’importe quoi. Sur scène, il doit toujours se passer quelque chose, même si ce n’est rien… Entre les chansons, il y a deux états assez particuliers qui se chamaillent, se répondent. Je ne peux pas m’empêcher de parler autant que chanter. Au début c’était même un conflit : après des chansons graves, j’avais tendance à casser le rythme par la parole, réflexe plutôt maladroit. Maintenant je ménage les effets, je laisse respirer avant la bêtise.
Mais vous dites toujours la bêtise…
D . L. : Ah oui, mais ça, c’est constant, c’est plus fort que moi… La mise en scène se fait au fur et à mesure des représentations. J’improvise, et je récupère pour la suite ce qui m’a marqué. Prochaine étape, en dire un peu moins, tout en en disant beaucoup, et plus jouer avec le corps… En fait je vais vers une forme de concert théâtral, donc beaucoup plus jouée, plus complète. Faire le comédien, c’est dire autre chose de moi, pouvoir être moi autrement.
