Le réalisateur canadien Atom Egoyan avait obtenu le Grand Prix du Festival de Cannes 1997, avec l’adaptation pour le cinéma du roman de l’auteur américain Russell Banks. Le metteur en scène Emmanuel Meirieu décide aujourd’hui de son côté de porter l’ouvrage à la scène, sur un plateau de théâtre qui puisse contenir les espaces immaculés d’un immense lac gelé pour une incarnation en quatre monologues et autant de solitudes partagées. De beaux lendemains traite simultanément des rets psychologiques et de l’injustice d’un destin cruel, à la façon d’un conte enfantin terrible. Le récit fait œuvre de consolation, selon le metteur en scène, en puisant à l’éternel questionnement d’un deuil d’autant plus difficile à faire puisqu’il s’agit pour cette petite communauté, du groupe de ses 22 enfants, disparu d’un seul coup sous les glaces en hiver. Comment dire l’intime quand il est à ce point blessé à l’âme ? Un défi relevé avec grandeur avec des acteurs de l’envergure de Judith Chemla et d’Hippolyte Girardot.
