Que retenez-vous de votre expérience de directeur depuis 2001 ?
Christophe Perton : Les trois premières années, j’ai co-dirigéla Comédie de Valence CDN avec le metteur en scène Philippe Delaigue qui, pour des raisons personnelles, a regagné Lyon, sa ville d’origine où il est directeur pédagogique à l’ENSATT. Il a fallu dès le début, se confronter à un handicap financier, un déficit à résorber sans aide extérieure. Les contraintes sont souvent des gages d’inventivité : j’ai dû imaginer d’autres solutions de gestion et une autre économie du spectacle. Ce qui a présidé au fonctionnement du CDN, c’est la notion de partage artistique. Je me suis entouré d’une équipe de comédiens permanents et neuf d’entre eux sont restés du début jusqu’à la fin. Avec Philippe, nous avions déjà cette idée de partager le lieu, l’outil de travail, avec d’autres metteurs en scène. Nous avons initié toute une série de commandes en direction des metteurs en scène désirant travailler avec nous. On a ainsi envisagé un partage rigoureux des moyens de la structure et de l’équipe artistique, ce qui a entraîné un foisonnement de créations et de reprises, un véritable répertoire.
Comment le projet s’est-il accompli concrètement ?
Ch. P. : On a convaincu des artistes à venir s’implanter à Valence, à être présent dans la ville et à investir le théâtre. Au cours de cette activité créative intense s’est forgée une relation durable avec le public qui de saison en saison, de spectacle en spectacle, aime retrouver tel acteur. Une œuvre ne s’apprécie que dans sa rencontre à l’intérieur d’une durée, quatre à cinq ans, au cours desquels le bouche-à-oreille intra muros est actif. On a pris en compte le territoire d’implantation du CDN, en envisageant le projet avec les départements de la Drôme et de l’Ardèche, où bâtir des théâtres ruraux.

La Comédie Itinérante a investi des lieux improbables, des salles des fêtes, des églises…, qu’une équipe technique conséquente transforme, en une journée, en théâtres. Le socle de cette présence multipliée est fondé sur la création contemporaine.
Vous avez également fait place à la création étrangère.
Ch. P. : La Comédie a développé la présence d’un théâtre européen avec des artistes étrangers, comme Warlikowski, alors artiste associé à la Comédie de Valence. Lupa, Rodrigo Garcia, Arpad Shilling, Ostermeier ont été accueillis. Les salles sont pleines car le public n’est plus effrayé par la barrière de la langue, il éprouve même une appétence pour le théâtre étranger.
Quelle est la carte au menu du TEP ?
Ch. P. : J’ai voulu donner chez Catherine Anne, une photographie de notre activité à Valence, en déplaçant une partie du projet de la Comédie à Paris, une sorte de décentralisation inversée. C’est un jubilé que nous présentons en réunissant tous les acteurs de la troupe. Les créations reposent souvent sur des commandes, une politique du CDN, un confort supplémentaire. J’alterne les mises en scène des grandes pièces du répertoire avec les textes d’auteurs contemporains. Olivier Werner, acteur et metteur en scène de la troupe permanente, met en scène Saint Elvis de Valletti et Rien d’humain de Marie NDiaye. Marc Lainé, scénographe, signe La Nuit électrique de Mike Kenny, un spectacle jeune public créé dans le cadre de la Comédie Itinérante. Pauline Sales, auteure et dramaturge permanente de l’équipe, a écrit neuf textes pour les neuf acteurs permanents, Israël-Palestine, portraits, sur la question des relations Israëlo-Palestiniennes, à la suite d’un voyage là-bas dans le cadre d’« Écritures Vagabondes ». Je reprends Acte de Lars Norén, face à face entre une femme incarcérée pour terrorisme et un médecin venu l’examiner, un huis clos évoquant la Bande à Baader. Voilà un éventail de cinq spectacles pour cinq auteurs et quatre metteurs en scène.
