Parce qu’il en est le complice alors qu’il lui suffirait de vouloir être libre pour l’être. « Soyez résolus à ne plus servir, et vous voilà libres. Je ne vous demande pas de le pousser, de l’ébranler, mais seulement de ne plus le soutenir, et vous le verrez, tel un grand colosse dont on a brisé la base, fondre sous son poids et se rompre. » Écrit au mitan du XVIème siècle, le Discours de la servitude volontaire est un pamphlet éblouissant contre l’absolutisme et la lâcheté imbécile et concupiscente de ceux qui le servent.
Grands sont les tyrans des peuples à genoux
Superstitions, divertissements, prébendes courtisanes : le tyran fabrique des tyranneaux vassaux qui organisent ensemble la pyramide de la soumission. Que pourrait le tyran, sinon ? « Quel mal pourrait-il vous faire, si vous n’étiez les receleurs du larron qui vous pille, les complices du meurtrier qui vous tue et les traîtres de vous-mêmes ? » Jacques Connort, convaincu de « l’actualité brûlante » de « ce texte fiévreux », réécrit par Ludovic M. Formentin, confie à Jean-Paul Farré le soin de l’interpréter en « ancien magistrat aux allures de Diogène, empreint de sagesse et de truculence, ayant longtemps observé les hommes et parcouru les époques. » Avis à tous : relevez-vous !
